June Favourites!

Can we just take a moment to figure out just how exactly we are almost at the end of June already?? I am aware how that makes me sound so much like the Nana I totally am but wow, how time flies when you're having fun eh?

So this week, I decided to continue with my series of favourites, (if you can call it that when this is only my third, it kind of counts right??) or, as I like to call it, just basically things I have been loving recently. These can be anything from the downright bizarre to more genuine things that I just feel the need to share the love with you all. So settle in, grab a cup of something lovely and enjoy!

So for the first, lets begin with the slightly bizarre. Cullottes. These things, these items of clothing for the uninitiated, are very much Marmite to many, as they were to me for the longest time but after spotting my first pair in good old Primark a few months ago, it's safe to say I am hooked.

These absolute trousers of wonder do tend to resemble pyjamas and my God, they are as comfortable, if not slightly more in some cases. Massive stretchy waistband to ensure you can eat ALL the food, wide legs to swish about in and more patterns and colours than you could shake a Dulux colour swatch at. I'm up to my fifth pair which some may say is slightly ridiculous but I just love them. Paired with a simple tee and converse I'm good to go. Perhaps Skinny Jeans and Coffee is on the turn this summer to Baggy Trousers and Beverage. Hurrah.

Next up, I am still on my year long mission to read more and so far, it's going pretty darn well. I'm a big fan of my Kindle and then recently rediscovered audiobooks, which hadn't really been on my radar since the days of those magazines you used to get in the late 80's with a story tape attached to it - someone help me out here, I'm thinking they were called Storyteller?? Anyway, before I go off on a major 80's tangent (which has been known on this blog let's face it...) let's keep to the task in hand.

The app Audible is, and has been, one of my favourite things for a really long time and I really enjoy popping one on whilst I'm driving or just when I'm pottering round the house. My audiobook of choice recently has been the brilliantly titled "Firing Cheeseballs at a Dog" by Greg Davies, one of my favourite comedians. This audiobook is basically his stand up tour from a few years ago and brilliantly chronicles some of the pivotal moments in his life so far.

I'm probably not giving the game away in saying how funny this is, what I wasn't expecting was getting puzzled looks from strangers whilst sitting at traffic lights laughing my head off. It's only just over an hour long so a really easy listen and definitely one I'll return to. If you haven't seen his stuff, take a look. If you're easily offended then possibly don't. If you're easily offended and then come complaining to me for recommending it in the first place, just no.

On to my next favourite this month. Mascara. One of those things that, like the "perfect" pair of jeans, never really seems to exist in my book. My all time favourite has always been the Chanel Inimitable Intense Volume Mascara but, at close to £30, it is an expensive one to say the least. I wanted something that I could use daily without cringing at the thought of my bank balance having a heaving sob every time I coated a lash. So, whilst in Primark a few weeks ago, where I may or may not have been picking up more culottes, I picked up some of their mascaras on a whim as I'd heard a lot in the press and social media about their make up game being pretty strong at the moment, and at between £1 and £3 depending on which one you choose I was more than happy to give them a go. I obviously picked up three different ones, being unable to choose just one - the £1 one, a £2.50 and £3. I have to admit the £1 went straight in the bin after the first use as I could have curled and darkened my eyelashes better with marmite on a stick but wow, I was genuinely surprised at the other two.

I've been switching between these two for the past couple of weeks and am absolutely loving both. Pretty sure the top one (blue tube) was £3 and the gold one £2.50 and both, dare I say it, are as good in my book as my prized Chanel one. Obviously won't last as long but as day to day fluttery lash saviours, I will definitely keep going back for more of these.

Keeping on the beauty theme, my next favourite is the Jo Malone Earl Grey and Cucumber perfume. Yes, I am fully aware that these two ingredients aren't exactly the first that spring to mind when you want to spritz a bit of scent on during the day but as a long time lover of all things Jo Malone, this really doesn't disappoint and certainly doesn't stink of tea and sandwiches. My lovely friend Deb introduced me to this and I am absolutely loving it. It doesn't get men running down the street after me like a nice bottle of Impulse would have back in the day (who am I kidding) but I'd say that's probably a bonus. Gorgeous scent, the bottle size is perfect to throw in your handbag and the packaging is just so lovely, next time you're around a Jo Malone counter have yourself a little spritz.

Not to be eaten, just sprayed liberally.

Speaking of lovely friends, my next favourite is something I can't really take a photo of but one I had to mention. My lovely friends. Yes, it's a cheesy one but here we go. There have been a couple of people this month who I absolutely couldn't have done without and have made my days just "better". I am not the kind of girl who has "best" friends or a huge circle, my "pack" of ladies is small and perfectly formed, just the way I like it. The ones who have been there for me this month, the ones that have made me smile on days when I just don't feel like it and the ones who take me out for brunch and do Alpaca impersonations (don't ask) are absolutely the ones and most definitely ones I could never do without. If you're reading this you'll know who you are and I bloody love you.

Speaking of brunch, lets take a second to go for a food favourite shall we? I am currently on the "no carbs before Marbs" diet (that bagel I devoured this morning absolutely didn't count, ahem) so I've been training and watching what I eat a little more. Or attempting to. But I still have a sweet tooth that refuses to be ignored. Enter the gorgeous little bags of treats that are good old M&S Belgian dark chocolate rice cakes. (Can't link but you'll find them in store I promise!) 121 calories a pack, gorgeous dark choc and bloody lovely. What's not to love? And yes, this is the worst pic ever but do you know how hard it was to take a picture of these lovely morsels without shovelling them all down my neck in 0.2 seconds????

 Just yum......

Just yum......

My penultimate one (lets get one long word in this truly educational blog post shall we?) is a YouTuber and Blogger I have been loving for a long time but even more so just recently. Brogan Tate is a lady I have been following for a while and I just love. If you've not seen her channel and you like a mix of lifestyle, travel, beauty and just "real" content from a YouTuber who absolutely isn't up her own backside then you should definitely take a look at her channel. Her weekly vlogs come in at a satisfying half an hour or more duration and cover everything from daily life to press events and holidays and I find it a really nice way to spend my lunch break to sit and have a watch, I also like to while away far too long catching up on her blog posts. She inspires me to do what I do even though I am probably (definitely) twice her age but I love it. Thank you Brogan!

And finally, a mention of my friends accessory company that I have mentioned before on this blog when I did a collaboration post with them back in October last year. Peony & Mint is an absolute treasure trove of a shopping experience and one I would absolutely recommend if, like me, you love jewellery, bags, scarves, sunglasses, all the pretty things basically! The owner Jo, is a fab friend of mine and I'm also very proud to now say my boss as I am now working with her doing social media, photography and soon to be dropping in your inboxes (go and subscribe!) brand new newsletters showcasing all that there is on offer. Yes, it's a blatant plug for it, and one I won't make any apologies for as I'm seriously so proud how far this lovely lady has come and the things she does! (Not to mention how she keeps me fuelled in coffee when I'm working!) Anything I promote on this little blog are things I absolutely love and think you guys will too. I have always loved all these little treasures of hers and my wardrobe is full of various accessories I have picked up from her over the years so to be now working as part of the team is something I am incredibly proud of. If you love an accessory or two, you'll be hard pushed not to love anything they have on offer so go and have a little look why don't you!

And there we have it! All the things I have been, and am currently loving. (I can also fully confirm those rice cakes did not last very long after the picture was taken!) All, well, most of the links are listed if you want to have a little look! xx
